We ride bikes, drink coffee, eat cake and wave at other riders when they pass.
Yes – we are currently taking new members.
Yes – we can arrange for you to join one of our groups for you to get a feel for the club before becoming a member. Please Contact our Membership Secretary.
Rides will vary from a social ride of 20km (a steady 10 to 12 miles with a mid-ride refreshment stop), up to 100km+ and will average anywhere from 20kph to north of 30kph. When our ride leaders advertise available rides, they will post the distance, elevation / amount of climbing and proposed speed so that you can choose a ride to match your abilities / mood.
Once you have joined, you are given access to the club’s closed Facebook group where our rides are published weekly. We are currently asking members to book a place on the ride of their choice using an app called Spond to avoid large groups. If you are thinking of joining and would like to try a club ride before signing up please Contact our Membership Secretary.
Our regular club rides start from Woking Leisure Centre. Our social rides typically start from the Cricketers in Horsell. Mountain Bike rides will vary given the different locations. All rides will advertise if there is a different start point to usual.
Members can join by themselves from 18. We accept younger riders from 14, but they must be accompanied by a responsible adult on all rides. We also have a Go-Ride section for budding young riders run by British Cycling qualified coaches.
We run Time Trials and Hill Climb events throughout the year, including handicap events. A number of our members also compete in open events outside of our club events and we have a dedicated ‘Racing’ section to support that part of the club.
Almost a third of our club members are female and that proportion has been growing steadily. We have an appointed Inclusion and Diversity officer who is looking at all aspects of our diversity, including gender, cultural and socio-economic, with an aim of being a club that is truly representative of the Woking community for which we fly the flag.
You can purchase membership via the British Cycling website. Click the ‘Join Our Club’ tab here. You don’t have to join British Cycling as well although we would recommend you do. Or if you’d like to contact us first you can email our membership secretary at membership@wokingcycling.club
Check out our club handbook in the downloads section of the site. That has our latest pricing.
We run monthly socials and have a number of other events during the year such as a summer BBQ and Christmas party.
Have a look at the ‘New Members’ page on our website. Also there’s a page on ‘Group Ride Etiquette’.
When you join, you’ll get access to a whole library of RideWithGPS routes that our ride leaders have curated over the years - perfect for those days when you want an adventure but can’t join with one of the organised club rides.
No – you would need to arrange your own insurance. We recommend joining British Cycling or Cycling UK as they provide 3rd party liability insurance with membership. There are also plenty of bike specific insurers if you want to cover you and your prized possessions when out on the road / competing.
Hope that’s answered some of your questions.
